Join the Labriola National American Indian Data Center and Makerspace in Hayden Library room 317 on Wednesday, Nov. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. for a fun and interactive jewelry-making session!
In collaboration with Makerspace, Labriola will be co-hosting a jewelry-making event where participants will engage with jewelry and Indigenous artistry using designs created by the laser cutter at Makerspace on wood and acrylic. The theme for this event speaks towards how words and language for Indigenous communities are symbols of decolonization. Words such as ""Sovereignty"" and the original names of the mountains in O'odham will be provided as well as precut letters so that everyone can create their own words that give them strength. Snacks, light refreshments, paint, and jewelry tools and supplies will be available. By the end of this session, you will walk out with a finished set of jewelry and know how to use jump rings, flat nose pliers, snip leather cord or chains, and know how to attach lobster claws and or ear wires to your finished piece.
This is an open event and ASU students and community members are welcome. When you register, pick your favorite design so our team can premake your chosen composition and arrive ready to dive into the realm of jewelry making!
