Leaving EOSS/ASU

Leaving EOSS/ASU

When an employee indicates their intent to leave EOSS/ASU the employee is responsible for providing the supervisor with a written letter of resignation or retirement. All employees who terminate their employment for any reason must return all university property, including but not limited to: identification cards (retirees may exchange their Sun Card for one that has a retiree designation), computers/laptops, cameras, cell phones, keys, tools, or equipment no later than the final day of employment. Employees who terminate will be paid all wages due no later than the regular payday for the pay period during which the termination occurred.

Vacation Payout Policy

Upon reparation of employment or retirement, an employee shall be paid for an accumulated vacation leave not to exceed one year's accrual. Vacation hours taken in the last pay period of employment are included in the calculation of the one year accrual maximum. Accumulated vacation leave will be paid out at the rate of pay in effect at the time of separation or retirement.

Unused vacation may be accumulated and carried forward from one calendar year to the next in a total amount not to exceed 320 hours (based on FTE and level). Vacation accruals in excess of the maximum number of hours are forfeited at the end of each calendar year. Forfeited time may take up to two pay periods following the end of the year to reflect on an employee’s pay advice.

Vacation leave taken to extend a voluntary termination or retirement date may not exceed the earned amount for one year’s service and must be approved by the department’s dean or vice president.

Retirement

The university has a comprehensive retirement program to assist faculty and staff in accumulating wealth and ensuring financial security at the end of their careers. The program offers multiple retirement plans and free financial education on campus and retiree benefits when retiring from ASU.

ASU Technology Access

When you retire from ASU you will still be able to use some ASU technology services. If you have emeritus status you will retain access to all or most services.

Why access is restricted

ASU's technology services typically depend on educational licensing and service agreements. Generally these cover current faculty, emeritus faculty, staff and students. Most such agreements don't have options to cover non-emeritus retirees.

If you do not have emeritus faculty status at the time of retirement, your access to most services will be discontinued. Please see here for more information.

As of July 1, 2019, retirees no longer retain access to their asu.edu email account. They will have to direct it to be forwarded to another email box before they separate. Please see here for more information.

Information for Exiting Employees
