You Can Do Something Campaign

What is the You Can Do Something Campaign?

Arizona State University is committed to cultivating a community of care where everyone contributes to a safe and healthy environment. Everyone has been in a situation where they helped someone in need, and everyone has been in a situation where they needed help and didn’t receive it.

The presence of individual leadership and shared responsibility is the key to a thriving community. Our positive actions, big and small, can create a community where all individuals feel safe and supported.

You might not change the outcome of every situation, every time, but believe in your ability to positively impact the lives of your peers and your community at large. You can do something.

The You Can Do Something Campaign seeks to equip ASU community members with the skills and knowledge to serve as empowered bystanders. Empowered bystanders step into situations and intervene in the hopes of preventing harm to create a community of care where all Sun Devils thrive.

How do I get involved in the You Can Do Something Campaign?

The campaign will occur from August 26 - September 30, 2024.

Social Media Activism

One of the best ways to get involved throughout the campaign is to follow the Sexual and Relationship Violence Program social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Utilize our YCDS social media toolkit to post on your or your organization’s social media.

Educational workshops

Bystander intervention skills take education and practice. Participate in interactive, weekly workshops to explore how cultivating healthy relationships with ourselves and each other can contribute to a thriving community where everyone looks out for one another. These workshops will help you build skills to set boundaries, have conversations with your peers about issues that impact the well-being of our community, and intervene in situations where health and safety may be at risk. Workshop participation will provide you with additional confidence in your ability to serve as a leader and an empowered bystander. Visit our upcoming events or Sun Devil Sync page to register.

Looking back

For nearly a decade, ASU has remained dedicated to hosting a comprehensive bystander empowerment campaign that ensures our students, staff and faculty have the skills to positively step into situations in order to mitigate against harm. Annually, the You Can Do Something campaign invites students, staff and faculty to recognize their fellow community members who have made notably positive contributions, big or small, to our ASU community. Further, educational workshops and events are hosted that help ASU community members hone their skills as empowered and intervening bystanders.
