Sexual and Relationship Violence Program

Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention

Welcome to Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention at ASU

Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention (SRVP) provides education, prevention, and confidential advocacy to foster a survivor-supportive community and reduce the incidence of violence, discrimination, and harassment. SRVP focuses on skill-building, promoting positive community norms, and connecting individuals with pathways for support and healing.

Our work is developed through a trauma-informed and anti-oppression lens, and is guided by multidisciplinary research and best practices in the fields of public health, social work, gender studies, psychology and more.

Community and individual education

Online education and presentations are provided to enhance the student experience in class, as a member of a student group or organization, or within a residential college. Topics that are addressed through education include but are not limited to: developing healthy relationships, the continuum of violence, navigating unhealthy and abusive relationships and seeking support, definitions of consent and sexual assault, bystander intervention and supporting victims and survivors.

Student involvement

Students are invited to get involved as peer educators, interns, volunteers or student organization members. Students may assist with awareness events, staffing information tables, serving on committees, participating in workgroups and contributing to development and evaluation. Training is provided to prepare students for the level of work they will do to promote violence prevention.

Social marketing, media and messaging

Educational posters, brochures, digital messages, banners and more are placed across ASU’s campuses to reinforce education and skills gained in class and online. In addition, graphics reflecting the same messages are distributed via social media, email newsletters and more.

Signature events

Signature events are provided throughout the year to reinforce educational messages offered through online platforms, in-person trainings and social marketing messages. These signature events are designed to engage the community at large in the prevention of sexual and relationship violence.

Peer support initiatives

Opportunities to enhance the skills of peers to best support victims and survivors of sexual and relationship violence are offered through a multitude of modalities such as in-person and virtual training. For example, The Sun Devil Support Network is a peer survivor support network consisting of ASU community members trained to provide an empathetic and trauma-informed response to survivors and connect them to ASU, local, state or national resources for additional support.
