What is the Sexual Violence Prevention Leadership Program?

The Sexual Violence Prevention Leadership Program seeks to help undergraduate student organizations understand their role in preventing violence on an individual, relational, and community level. This six-week program is intended to provide student leaders with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to identify and address rape-supportive norms, attitudes and behaviors, and mobilize social change in regards to sexual violence within their communities.

Due to the structure of the program, participating organizations or teams will move through the six workshop experience as a cohesive cohort. This gives organization members the opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and build new connections through shared learning focused on violence prevention.

Organizations that participate will also have access to various incentives and leadership development opportunities. Upon completing all six sessions of the program, each team member will receive a certificate of completion, and advanced leadership opportunities may be made available.

Looking back

In the fall of 2017, the program was specifically developed for sorority women within the Panhellenic Association in collaboration with members of the Panhellenic Association executive board, their advisor and SRVP staff. The program reached over 175 women during the first year and won a Pitchfork Award for Outstanding Wellness Program.

The program remained within the sorority community until the fall of 2019, when the program began to expand to other communities. Currently, the program reaches both men and women in the fraternity and sorority community, several cultural-based organizations, LGBTQIA2S+ students and other student leader groups at ASU.
