ASU High School Leadership Academy
In partnership with the Truman Presidential Library’s White House Decision Center, the ASU Center for American Institutions is pleased to offer incoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors an opportunity to join us on the ASU Tempe campus on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 for a High School Leadership Academy.
The academy provides students with first-hand experience in crisis management, world affairs, political science and history. Participants step into the role of President Harry S. Truman and his advisors to tackle some of the greatest challenges faced by any world leader. The academy challenges students’ abilities to quickly synthesize complex information gleaned from the now-declassified primary sources that President Truman and his advisors read.
The topic of the 2026 academy is "Ending the War with Japan"
Students gain skills in:
- Close reading and information gathering
- Primary source analysis
- Comparing and contrasting multiple points of view
- Synthesizing complex information
- Group cooperation and communication
- Speech writing and public speaking
- Crafting evidence-based solutions for a complex problem
The cost to attend is $50. Scholarships are available. Contact [email protected] to request a scholarship for your student.
