Gifted and/or high-achieving students from Arizona schools are eligible to apply. All applicants must meet Criteria 1. Applicants must submit documentation that satisfies at least one element of Criteria 2 AND Criteria 3.

Criteria 1:

Enrollment in 7th, 8th, or 9th grade during the 2017-2018 school year


Criteria 2:

Recent report card or transcript


Criteria 3 (optional):

Gifted test score in the 97th percentile or above 


Your most recent AzMERIT or AIMS test scores



Barrett Summer Scholars is a highly competitive program.  While there is no minimum GPA or test score that is required for eligibility, eligible students should demonstrate a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have received an Exceeds/Highly Proficient in at least one section of AIMS/AzMERIT.


The applicant's academic records are only one component of the selection process. Applicants will be rated holistically, so all parts of the application are important. In the past, applicants who can demonstrate a willingness to engage in learning have been the most successful in BSS.
