It is your responsibility to communicate in an email your asserted, or preferred, name and pronouns to your instructor or supervisor. It is the instructor or supervisor’s responsibility to update their records accordingly when they receive your email request. You may use the sample email below as a template to notify your instructors and supervisors.  

Dear (instructor or supervisor name),  

I am looking forward to your class this semester (class prefix and line number, ie FAS101 #12345). I wanted to let you know that although my name listed on the class roster is (given name), I go by (asserted name) and use the pronouns (he/him/his; she/her/hers; they/them; it/its, etc). Thank you for respecting my identity.

The Registrar’s Office can update the gender marker on your student record at any time. Email or call the office at your campus location to request an update to your record. International students should visit the International Students and Scholars Center to speak with a staff member about these requests.

 

Gender Inclusive Housing

Gender Inclusive Housing

Gender inclusive housing accommodations are offered in each residential college community at no additional cost. Each accommodation request is confidential and follows the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

 

Gender Neutral Bathrooms

Gender Neutral Bathrooms

Individuals may use the restroom of the gender which they most closely identify. You can also view gender neutral-restrooms on each ASU campus by clicking the “Gender-Neutral Restroom” box under “Services” on the left side of the page.

 

Name Changes

Name Changes

If you are a student looking to change your first name in certain ASU systems without changing your legal name, you can submit a Preferred Display Name Change request. Once your request is processed, it will take 72 hours for the name change to take effect.

Voice Training

Voice Training

The clinic serves as training and research facilities for degree programs in speech and hearing science at ASU's College of Health Solutions. Clinical services are provided by graduate students under the direct supervision of licensed faculty with expertise in hearing, speech, language, voice and early childhood communication.
