A component of the Central Arizona Writing Project, YAWP (Young Adult Writing Program) is designed to offer young writers a non-evaluative environment to explore the power of writing. Our camps will offer in-person and online YAWP courses in June 2023.

This annual event is a residential summer enrichment program for academically talented and motivated students entering 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th grade in Fall 2023. Students participate in a Critical Thinking or Human Event course and an elective taught by university faculty or staff to prepare them for enrollment and success at ASU, and Barrett, the Honors College.

School of Art Summer Camp- Interested in art, nature, and science? Grab your watercolors and lab coat as we examine specimens at the Life Sciences Collections at ASU. Learn about and take a closer look at animals, botanicals, shells, insects, and more under the microscope! As we explore, you’ll create watercolor paintings and drawings based on your visual research. Make it abstract or paint exactly what you see! This is your time to be creative and investigate a magical microscopic world you never knew existed.
School of Art Summer Camp- Go beyond pencil and ink to create with lasers! Mixing the traditional techniques of relief and intaglio printmaking with modern day technology, you will bring both worlds together and learn how to laser engrave wood blocks and plexiglass to create your own series of prints.
School of Art Summer Camp- Make a mini-series about animals or an animated short about the galaxy– all while using materials that you create yourself! Stop Motion Animation is a highly-detailed animation process that uses up to 40 photos per second to create seamless videos. Participants will work individually or collaboratively as they create storyboards and construct, shoot, and edit a short video using various materials such as clay, construction paper, and small objects. Using the industry-grade technology available at the School of Art, students will meld and edit photos into a video.
School of Art Summer Camp- Add some flair to your backpack or t-shirts, print your own logos on a tote bag, or create your own prints to hang up at home! In this screenprinting camp, you'll practice the printing and layering processes with transparencies and stencils as you incorporate techniques of drawing, tracing, detailed cutting, composition, and found object exposure. Water-based inks in a variety of colors will be mixed for printing. Students will take home their creations, as well as their own School of Art tote bag.
School of Art Summer Camp- Explore Tempe with a photographer’s eye! In this camp, you will arrange scenes and capture moments across ASU’s campus as you practice the full photographic process, from composition to editing to series sequencing. Each student will receive valuable 1-on-1 feedback based on their individual needs and will be able to collaborate with peers on the creation of photographic projects. At the end of camp, every participant will select their favorite shots of the week to create a class photobook!
School of Art Summer Camp- Bring an artistic vision to life through the exploration of ceramic hand building, throwing, and surface design! In this camp, you’ll create imaginative ceramic forms and apply various design methods using underglaze, painting, and carving techniques. In addition, you’ll experiment with the pottery wheel to shape your own vases, dishware, and more. After learning about the full pottery process, you’ll select pieces to be fired, which will be available for pick up after the camp's conclusion.
School of Art Summer Camp- Work with wood as you create tools, toys, and games! In this five-day introductory woodworking camp, you will learn the fundamentals of carving and joinery within the School of Art’s dedicated Woods Studio. Each participant will learn to use the bandsaw and various hand tools to design and create sculptural objects.
