Preparing responsibly open and accessible research data starts at the beginning of a project and continues through its completion. In this presentation, Matthew Harp, Research Data Initiatives Librarian, will provide standard practices and recommendations from planning to publishing that support transparent, open, and reproducible research.

 OpenRefine is a free, open-source tool that simplifies the process of cleaning, transforming, and enhancing datasets. Whether you conduct data intensive research daily or casually use spreadsheets, OpenRefine’s user-friendly interface helps individuals of all skill levels clean up messy datasets without needing to learn programming languages or complicated spreadsheet formulas. This presentation will provide an introduction to OpenRefine including: importing data, using facets and filters, clustering, and exporting the cleaned data.

This 2-part series both introduces and explores key concepts in Artificial Intelligence. The aim is to understand applications, but also think through implications for your own research and professional interests. In each presentation and topic, we emphasize design, adoption, and ethics of AI systems.

Data Science is an interdisciplinary field that uses the scientific method, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract valuable meaning and insights from data. In this session we will discuss the phases of data science and the various resources the Unit for Data Science and Analytics and the Hayden Library has to support your learning.
