Each of the ASU campuses have a variety of no-cost opportunities for students and families to relax, play, learn and explore. These majority of these spaces serve a diverse range of ages and interests. We encourage you to engage with these attractions and email asufamily@asu.edu if you know of a space or activity that should be added to the list.
Please note all indoor and gated campus attractions are closed for University holidays.
Civic Space Park is just north of the Van Buren light rail stop and directly across the street from ASU’s downtown University Center and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The park features ample grassy and shady areas for play, study and picnicking. Hanging high above the park is the sculpture “Her Secret Is Patience.”

On the lower level of the University Center, you’ll find books and other research resources focusing on materials tailored to majors in the anchor fields taught at the Downtown Phoenix campus. A great space to study alone or with a group, or just have a quiet place on campus.

Grant Street Studios in downtown Phoenix's warehouse district is home to many of the School of Art's graduate facilities and houses Northlight Gallery, Step Gallery, Ceramics Graduate Studio and ASU graduate student studios. The studios offer guests the chance to explore the renovated cotton factory and learn about the students pursuing their MFAs.

A hub of academic activity, the University Center is full of class settings, offices and study areas. Various student services are housed in the building along with a banking center and Barrett, The Honors College. The first floor also has a corner store, great for dining on the go or a break between classes.

The pavilion features an all-you-can-eat restaurant with a wide range of food options to accommodate any dietary needs and restrictions, a coffee shop, convenience store and private faculty dining room.

Situated in the Academic center’s lower level, the campus library offers students a quiet getaway to study, whether alone or in groups.

Take a self-guided tour through the Desert Arboretum at Polytechnic. Your journey begins at the Technology Center, on the corner of Innovation Way and Unity Avenue, and takes you through campus to the Quads.

The Poly union has spaces to eat, study, meet and play. This is the first public-use ASU building on the Polytechnic campus constructed from the ground up. It also houses the campus bookstore.

The ASU Art Museum was founded in 1950 with a major gift of American and Latin American works. The museum, at the corner of 10th Street and Mill Avenue, is a hub of innovation and discovery. It features contemporary art in all media by regional and international, emerging and established artists.

At the foot of Tempe Butte is the two-and-a-half-acre botanical park. The arboretum is home to plants from across Arizona’s desert regions and serves as a space for conferences and special events.

The Ceramics Research Center is a world-renowned destination for the study and appreciation of ceramics. Every year, the Ceramics Research Center features three to five exhibitions on important movements and artists who have made significant contributions in the ceramics field.

The gallery hosts senior BFA group exhibitions in drawing, painting, photography, intermedia, digital art, fibers, ceramics, metals, sculpture and printmaking and occasionally serves as a venue for larger group curatorial efforts.

The largest ASU library facility, Hayden Library houses books and research materials in the humanities and social sciences, including business and education. With a $90 million renovation completed in January 2020, the library features: state-of-the-art learning labs, makerspaces, data labs, and collaborative learning facilities, and national and localized distinctive collections.
Hayden Lawn, adjacent to the library, is an open and spacious area that hosts events and a center for relaxation in the middle of campus. Students and guests are invited to sit, play, and enjoy a vibrant campus bustling with activities all around.

Since 1983, the library has offered many student services and study spaces. The library is the Map and Geospatial Hub, which contains thousands of maps, photographs, atlases and reference materials related to maps and cartography.

Red Square focuses exhibitions on architecture, visual communication, industrial and interior design and landscape architecture.

The Life Sciences Center’s living collection of Arizona reptiles is situated in the Life Sciences A-wing. You can take a self-guided tour through the halls to see the rattlesnakes and Gila Monsters native to the state.

Nestled between the Rural Parking Stucture and Biodesign A, B and C, the space is a contemporary interpretation of ancient Hohokam shade ramadas, pit houses and baskets. It is intended to balance the poetry of his ideas with pragmatic concerns.

The Delph Courtyard is an outdoor garden patio, inviting faculty, staff, students and visitors to gather since 1991. Various displays and cultural events fill the courtyard throughout the year. The courtyard is the centerpiece of the University Center Building.

Since 1988, the library’s collection supports the West campus curriculum. It was the first building completed on ASU’s West campus and has group study rooms equipped with computers and projectors, individual study space, and a copy center.
