What it's like to be an International Student

An industrial engineer by profession, I hail from a land full of diversity- India.
Apart from academics, I love to travel, meet new people and try different cuisines, and yes, cook!! I am also very passionate about community service, teaching and love eating healthy. I believe in giving out to the society and to always be kind.

Quite unlike other girls, I have always loved visiting industries and was curious about manufacturing processes which lead me into the field I am in today. To gain more experience and knowledge from world class professors, I decided to pursue a master’s degree from a reputable institution in the U.S., which is the reason I am here at ASU.

All good things said and done, being an international student brings along with it various challenges.

  • Adjusting to the culture: Every country has its own traditions, cultures and celebrations. Adjusting to the American way will surely take some time, but it will turn out to be fun and interesting once you’re used to it.International Student at photo booth

  • Change in academics: I have personally seen a huge change in the way schools work. From a relaxed class atmosphere to rigorous and straining coursework, ASU is sure to bring out the best in you.
  • Services offered by universities: You will be surprised to see the variety of services offered by ASU that range from free gym classes, free yoga and wellness programs to career counseling and networking workshops. ASU also gives out free game tickets and has various events throughout the year that help international students open up and get accustomed to the university and its programs and to interact with people.

  • Inclusive Atmosphere: ASU specifically stands by its motto: “Not by whom we exclude, but by whom we include and how they succeed.” If you’re a person looking to join a club or organization, with whatever constraints in mind, you’re sure to find one out of the 1500+ clubs/groups present at ASU.
