In the kick-off lecture of the 2022-23 Civic Discourse Project series, University of London’s Eric Kaufmann will present his research findings about what he calls “cultural socialism” on campus. According to professor Kaufmann, weak institutional protections for academic freedom and self-censorship impair debate and undermine viewpoint diversity on campus. He argues that “cancel culture” is weaker off-campus but on the rise.

Explore how SAGE Research Methods (SRM): Data Visualization can be used by instructors, researchers, and students for teaching and learning how to create impactful data visualizations. Information covered will include how researchers and students can use SRM: Data Visualization as a self-paced learning tool and how instructors can integrate SRM datasets and tutorials into their courses.

Understanding the exact problem and the specifics of that problem in data science are key from the who, what, when, where and why. Understanding the problem will guide in data collection or data selection to model selection. This presentation will discuss and increase your knowledge and skillset to identifying the problem in the data science project.

Data Science is an interdisciplinary field that uses the scientific method, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract valuable meaning and insights from data. Information covered will include the phases of data science and the various resources the Unit for Data Science and Analytics and the Hayden Library has to support your learning.
