Are you an Arizona high school student interested in learning more about engineers and how they impact our world and society? The National Summer Transportation Institute will engage you in projects and field trips that demonstrate how engineers plan and maintain our systems of transportation around the state of Arizona. As an NSTI participant, you will live on campus for one week while interacting with ASU engineering faculty and students, engaging in transportation-related field trips, and completing a project related to maintaining safe, sustainable, and efficient transit.

This annual event is a residential summer enrichment program for academically talented and motivated students entering 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th grade in Fall 2023. Students participate in a Critical Thinking or Human Event course and an elective taught by university faculty or staff to prepare them for enrollment and success at ASU, and Barrett, the Honors College.

Campers will build and program functional robots using the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime kits. Students will begin by building a basic robot equipped with programmable sensors. Then, students can let their imagination soar as they adapt their robots to complete a variety of challenges including a line-following challenge, climb-the-mountain challenge, and everyone’s favorite, the sumo ring tournament!

What is the key to success for teens and young adults? Success isn’t just about doing well in school or getting into a good college. Being successful is about discovering your strengths, mastering your emotions, and adding value wherever you go. A child is only truly successful when they learn to be happy and confident with who they are.
