APS STEM Academy/Cactus High School SummerUp Camp

Arizona State University and Cactus High school are partnering for a week of camp fun! Engage in a week of S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)  activities that are true boredom busters! Learn what classes to take in high school that will lead to exciting college degrees and successful careers!  Campers will see ASU campus and participate in STEM activites and learn about what STEM degrees are offered at West campus. At Cactus campers will learn about STEM course, meet instructors and get hands on projects to work on.

LEGO 3D Printing (Grades 5-8)

This camp is your introduction to the world of 3D design and printing. We will learn to create a variety of simple and complex shapes and figures, 3D print keychains and LEGO compatible elements and explore the possibilities of TinkerCad Code Blocks and other design features. Campers will be able to watch their designs being printed via livestream in the Fulton Engineering 3-D printing labs.

Printed items will be mailed to you after camp has concluded. This is a two-week camp and is offered twice.

Programming SPIKE Prime Robot (Grades 5-8)

Campers will explore the possibilities of the new LEGO Spike Prime. From building grabber arms and a programmable safe to autonomous robots that can navigate around your room, every day offers an exciting adventure. Campers will also learn the fundamentals of block-based programming used to control the Spike Prime. Algorithms, loops, events, conditional statements, and using variables are just some of the many programming elements that are incorporated in this versatile camp.

LEGO Power Functions (Grades 6-8)

Put your LEGO engineering and design skills to the test in our Power Functions camp. Campers will use Lego Technic parts and the Power Function motor pack to create a variety of mechanical contraptions from cars to an XY-plotter. Each day will focus on different gear systems, structural design, and incorporating the remote control to control the power function motors.

LEGO Challenge Camp (Grades 2-6)

This camp is an introduction to the world of engineering. You will learn to design, engineer and make things move –  all with LEGOS! Each day features a different challenge where you will build, test, and modify until you have designed the perfect LEGO creation. During this four day camp you will construct a LEGO zipline, rubber band car, balloon propelled vehicle, and soapbox racers.
