Hispanic Heritage Month pays tribute to the enduring contributions and significance of Latin Americans within the United States. This celebration acknowledges the diverse heritages and cultures of individuals with ancestral roots in Mexico, the Caribbean, Spain, Central and South America.

An observance rooted in history
The inception of Hispanic Heritage Month traces back to the year 1968 as a modest week-long acknowledgment. It was subsequently elevated to a month-long commemoration in 1988. Officially spanning from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, this timeframe was chosen to coincide with pivotal historical events – starting mid-September as it marks the anniversaries of independence for several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Moreover, Mexico and Chile join the celebration with their independence days falling on Sept. 16th and Sept. 18th, respectively.
