The Sun Devil Spirit Award is awarded to an ASU student that promotes spirit, pride, and tradition and bleeds maroon and gold. This individual consistently demonstrate a sense of pride in being a part of the ASU community and is always promoting the university in a positive light.
Awarded to a younger (whether in leadership experience or years in school) ASU student who has demonstrated excellent leadership accomplishments and displays promising future contributions to the ASU community. This award may include an interview for the top candidates. A student is not eligible to win both the Emerging Leader and Outstanding Leader awards; please choose a category that best fits the student you are nominating.
Awarded to an ASU undergraduate student who has demonstrated excellence in leadership. Candidates for this award should embody the Sun Devil Way: Achievement, Engagement, and Responsibility. The Outstanding Advisor Award is designed to recognize the exceptional work of a student organization’s advisor. This person must be listed as the first advisor on the organization's SunDevilSync portal. Deserving advisors show dedication to both the student organization as well as the students within the group. Nominees should model spirit, pride, and tradition, as well as develop student leaders who are dedicated to the success of their organization, making that group a strong part of the ASU community. In order to be eligible the nominee must have been the Advisor of record on SunDevilSync during the calendar year of 2018 (January-December).
Awarded to an individual member of a Greek Social, Academic, Service, or Professional organization who has demonstrated outstanding excellence in the leadership that they have offered to their chapters, the Greek community and ASU as a whole. The nominee should exhibit involvement both within their organization and the ASU community, a commitment to academic excellence, and serve as a role model to other students.
Awarded to a Sun Devil Intramural Sports athlete that was an active participant on multiple teams across multiple sports during the school year. Voting considerations include athletic excellence, to be marked by outstanding performance and individual and team success, as well as sportsmanship, based on their behavior and embodying the Sun Devil way through their play.
Awarded to a registered student organization that promote spirit, pride, and tradition and bleeds maroon and gold. Nominees actively engage as an organization in ASU sporting events and university wide events such as Homecoming, Welcome Week, and other campus traditions and signature events.
Awarded to a new ASU student organization (first registered on or after January 1, 2018) demonstrating excellent first-year accomplishments, a commitment to developing their own membership and/or developing programming to engage the greater campus community. This organization will show promise to be successful in the years to come, and contribute to the ASU community.
This award category recognizes the achievements and successes of a registered student organization comprised of primarily undergraduate students at Arizona State University. Nominees for this category should be examples of Spirit, Pride, and Tradition for the larger campus community and exemplify the Sun Devil Way of Achievement, Engagement, and Responsibility.
Awarded to an ASU graduate registered student organization comprised of primarily graduate students at Arizona State University demonstrating outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the ASU and graduate student communities. Nominees for this category should be examples of Spirit, Pride, and Tradition for the larger campus community and exemplify the Sun Devil Way of Achievement, Engagement, and Responsibility.
Awarded to an ASU student group that has made significant contributions to the community through group participation or partnership. This group should demonstrate how they have sustained a not for profit partnership and articulates that service is not just a one-time activity – it’s the Sun Devil Way – an opportunity for the life-long integration of learning and community engagement.
Awarded to an ASU student-led effort that creates the products, services and jobs that help our economy and communities grow — and encouraging others to follow their lead. This team should demonstrate passion, creative spirit and articulates their approach to looking at a community’s pressing challenges that merit concern and action/ This team should demonstrate creativity, innovation, passion and social responsibility.
Awarded to an outstanding Residential College that promotes creative connections and innovation both inside and outside of the classroom. This Residential college will demonstrate that they foster a positive community environment, and immerses students in spirit, pride, and tradition.
This award is for a Sun Devil Sport Club who has epitomized the values of leadership, involvement, and wellness. The Sport Club will have also actively promoted and developed the skills of members in both sport-related activities and engagement through the ASU community. Organizations must be registered as a Sun Devil Sport Club in SunDevilSync during the 2018 calendar year, and have an active club standing within Sport Clubs. Nominees will uphold outstanding merit within Sun Devil Sport Clubs and among their intercollegiate competitors
Awarded to an Intramural sports team who has embodied the Sun Devil Way through both their play and their actions on and off the fields and courts. The team of the year will demonstrate and achieve athletic excellence through their participation and play in Sun Devil Intramurals. Nominees will have a positive sportsmanship rating based on their team’s behavior while also fostering relationships with teams they compete against.
Awarded to an ASU student-led effort that has effectively raised awareness of or shown exceptional leadership connected to a local, national, or international group that focuses on one or more social causes on a broad level beyond our physical campus. Candidates for the award should align with ASU aspirations to leverage our place, transform society, value entrepreneurship, conduct use-inspired research, enable student success, fuse intellectual disciplines, be socially embedded, and/or engage globally.
Awarded to an outstanding student-led effort that has shown exceptional leadership in taking preventative measures in wellness endeavors. The project or program should align with ASU’s wellness goals to establish an ASU community that embraces physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being of self and others as fundamental to the Sun Devil experience.
Awarded to an ASU student-led effort that has shown exceptional leadership in advancing sustainability at ASU. The project or program should align with one or more of ASU’s overarching sustainability goals – Climate Positive, Circular Resources, Optimized Water, Personal Action, Collaborative Action, Food Re-Connection. Social Equity, and Resilience & Regeneration.
Awarded to an outstanding student-led event with the primary goal of providing entertainment or a social outlet on campus for ASU students. This award is presented to a program or event with over 500 attendees. Nominations should be able to demonstrate the attendance numbers.

Awarded to a student-led event that that encouraged students participate in the intellectual life of the university and/or understand the intersection of academic and co-curricular life. Nominations should showcase one or more academic disciplines, advance student-driven research or scholarly activity, and/or foster student-led discovery.
Awarded to a student-led event that encouraged members to grow professionally. The program should align ASU goals to enhance the professional development plan of attendees or demonstrate commitment to member growth, promote the exploration of opportunities based on skills, interests, and passions, or build skills within a professional area or field.
Awarded to a student-led event that exemplifies an outstanding commitment to promoting human development and peace by fostering faith based or interfaith dialogue, literacy, and/or cooperation. The program should align with ASU’s goals to foster an open, inclusive, and supportive community of all faiths, traditions, and beliefs.
Awarded to a student-led event that occurs repeatedly within the nomination year (January - December 2018) (e.g. weekly, monthly, or semesterly) and has had a meaningful impact on the community. Examples of exemplary programs would demonstrate their ability to consistently have high attendance at programs while providing significant contribution to the ASU community.
Awarded to a student-led effort to facilitate conversation or promote awareness on a specific issue relevant to the student body. The implementation of the initiative should be independent of a larger organization/movement and be unique or original to the ASU campus. This initiative or campaign should align with ASU’s aspirations to catalyze social change and/or engage with issues on a local, national, or international level.
Awarded to a student-led event designed to foster a deeper exploration of the intellectual, ethnic, and cultural diversity of our campus community. The program should align with ASU’s goal to provide greater understanding and perspective of race, gender, socioeconomic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, nationality, and/or intellectual perspective.
Awarded to a student-led event that has demonstrated exceptional leadership in showcasing the intellectual, ethnic, and cultural diversity of our campus community. The program should align with ASU’s goals to broaden perspectives and experiences of our campus community through celebration of food, music, dance, art, literature, customs, traditions, celebrations, or holidays reflective of our global community.
The Outstanding Collaborative Program is awarded to creative programs which exemplify the positive outcomes of a collaboration within or between three or more student organizations. This program must be a true collaboration between multiple organizations, with planning, implementation, and evaluation work divided among all partners.
Awarded to the best live performance of the night during the Pitchfork awards as determined by a live vote of the audience.
