Sun Devils may be nominated for a Pitchfork Award for their programming, activities and accomplishments completed between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31.

 

Award Categories

Emerging Student Leader
The Emerging Student Leader Award is awarded to an ASU student who, within their initial year of holding a leadership position, has demonstrated outstanding leadership accomplishments and exhibits the potential for significant contributions to the ASU community in the future. This recognition underscores the impact and promise of students who have showcased remarkable leadership skills early in their tenure at ASU.

Outstanding Undergraduate Student Leader
Awarded to an ASU undergraduate student who has demonstrated excellence in leadership. Candidates for this award should embody the Sun Devil Way: Achievement, Engagement, and Responsibility. This award may include an interview for the top candidates. A student is not eligible to win both the Emerging Leader & Outstanding Undergraduate Student Leader Awards; please choose the category that best fits the student you are nominating.

Outstanding Graduate Student Leader
Awarded to an ASU graduate student who has demonstrated excellence in leadership. Candidates for this award should embody the Sun Devil Way: Achievement, Engagement, and Responsibility. This award may include an interview for the top candidates. A student is not eligible to win both the Emerging Leader & Outstanding Graduate Student Leader Awards; please choose the category that best fits the student you are nominating.

Student Employee of the Year
The Student Employee of the Year Award is presented to an outstanding student employee who has made a positive impact on the university and has demonstrated an exceptional quality of work, initiative, and professionalism. This award can be awarded to any university hourly student employee, stipend student employee, student assistant or Federal Work Study Employee. Graduate Teaching and Research Assistants are not eligible.

Intercultural Leadership Award
The Intercultural Leadership Award is awarded to a student that has demonstrated exceptional levels of leadership, advocacy and commitment to improving the lives of Black, Indigenous and people of color at ASU.

Outstanding Fraternity & Sorority Member of the Year Greek (Chosen by Fraternity & Sorority Life)

Intramural Athlete of the Year
Awarded to a Sun Devil Intramural Sports athlete that was an active participant on multiple teams across multiple sports during the school year. Voting considerations include athletic excellence, to be marked by outstanding performance and individual and team success, as well as sportsmanship, based on their behavior and embodying the Sun Devil way through their play.

Sun Devil Way Award
Awarded to an ASU student group who has demonstrated the values of the Sun Devil Way: achievement, engagement, and responsibility. This group has made significant contributions to the community through group participation or partnership. This group should demonstrate how they have sustained a not for profit partnership and articulates that service is not just a one-time activity – it’s the Sun Devil Way – an opportunity for the life-long integration of learning and community engagement. They embody what it means to be a Sun Devil, through spirit, pride, and tradition.

Most Promising New Student Organization
Awarded to a new ASU student organization (first registered on or after January 1, 2023) demonstrating excellent first-year accomplishments, a commitment to developing their own membership and/or developing programming to engage the greater campus community. This organization will show promise to be successful in the years to come, and contribute to the ASU community.

Outstanding Graduate Student Organization
Awarded to an ASU graduate-level registered student organization comprised of primarily graduate students at Arizona State University demonstrating outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the ASU and graduate student communities. Nominees for this category should be examples of Spirit, Pride, and Tradition for the larger campus community and exemplify the Sun Devil Way of Achievement, Engagement, and Responsibility.

Outstanding Undergraduate Student Organization
This award category recognizes the achievements and successes of a registered student organization composed primarily of undergraduate students at Arizona State University. Nominees for this category should be examples of Spirit, Pride, and Tradition for the larger campus community and exemplify the Sun Devil Way of Achievement, Engagement, and Responsibility.​​​​​​​

Residential Community of the Year
Awarded to an outstanding Residential Community that promotes creative connections and innovation both inside and outside of the classroom. This Residential Community will demonstrate that they promote student success, foster a positive community environment, and immerses students in spirit, pride, and tradition.

Outstanding Educational Program
Awarded to student-led events that encourage students to participate in the intellectual life of the university and/or understand the intersection of academic and co-curricular life. Nominations should showcase one or more academic disciplines, advance student-driven research or scholarly activity, foster student-led discovery, facilitate conversation or promote awareness on a specific issue relevant to the student body, or focus on programming related to exploration of opportunities based on skills, interests, and passions, or build skills within a professional area or field. This award will be awarded to a university-supported event and smaller student organization events.

Outstanding Entertainment Program
Awarded to an outstanding student-led event with the primary goal of providing entertainment or a social outlet (in person or virtual/online) for ASU students. This award will be awarded to a university-supported event and smaller student organization events.

Outstanding Sustainable Project/Program
Awarded to an ASU student-led effort that has shown exceptional leadership in advancing sustainability at ASU. The project or program should align with one or more of ASU’s overarching sustainability goals – Climate Positive, Circular Resources, Optimized Water, Personal Action, Collaborative Action, Food Re-Connection. Social Equity, and Resilience & Regeneration. This award will be awarded to a university-supported event and smaller student organization events.

Changemaker Award for Social Change
Awarded to an ASU student-led effort that has effectively raised awareness of or shown exceptional leadership connected to a local, national, or international group that focuses on one or more civic or social causes on a broad level beyond our physical campus. Candidates for the award should align with ASU aspirations to leverage our place, transform society, value entrepreneurship, conduct use-inspired research, enable student success, fuse intellectual disciplines, be socially embedded, and/or promote civic engagement.​​​​​​​

Outstanding Collaborative Program (3+ student organizations)
The Outstanding Collaborative Program is awarded to creative programs which exemplify the positive outcomes of a collaboration within or between three or more student organizations. This program must be a true collaboration between multiple organizations, with planning, implementation, and evaluation work divided among partners.​​​​​​​

Outstanding Cultural, Diversity and Inclusion Program
Awarded to a student-led event designed to foster a deeper exploration of the intellectual, ethnic, and cultural diversity of our campus community. The program should align with ASU’s goal to provide greater understanding and perspective of race, gender, socioeconomic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, nationality, and/or intellectual perspective and can be educational and/or celebratory in nature.This award will be awarded to a university-supported event and smaller student organization events.​​​​​​​

Outstanding Wellness Project / Program
Awarded to an outstanding student-led effort that has shown exceptional leadership in taking preventative measures in wellness endeavors. The project or program should align with ASU’s wellness goals to establish an ASU community that embraces physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being of self and others as fundamental to the Sun Devil experience.

Nomination Criteria


Please provide a written statement of support. Nomination statements should be detailed, fully developed, and include specific examples. Honorees are selected based on their excelling in the award criteria so please include detailed examples of how they best meet the award criteria listed above. Pay particular attention to providing examples of how the nominee promotes ASU spirit, pride, and tradition in all they do. The selection committee will only have the information provided in the nomination upon which to base their decision.
