Student and Family Information

Your student’s academic, financial, and housing information are FERPA-protected information, and students have the choice and responsibility to share some or all of their information with parents and guests. ASU Parent Guest Access enables students to share information in their My ASU account. For more information on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, visit ASU’s FERPA page.

Students receive their ASU ID, known as a Sun Card or ASU Mobile ID, through Sun Devil Card Services. Students must upload an approved photo, and once it is processed, they can access their ASU Mobile ID in the ASU app after activation. All ASU IDs are now digital, allowing students, faculty, and staff to use their Apple or Android devices to access buildings, attend campus events, use campus services, and make payments anywhere Maroon and Gold dollars are accepted.

To make a payment on behalf of your student, they must first set up Parent Guest Access for you in their My ASU portal. You can pay your student's tuition and charges online, in person, or by mail. The ASU payment plan is available, providing students with the option to budget the payment of certain eligible university charges over several months within the semester.

Move-In & Residence Life

Many families choose to stay through the first day of move-in to assist with unpacking and to attend family-specific programming, and generally depart once the student-only programming and housing meetings begin. This enables students to establish independent connections as they embark on their journey at ASU. The ASU Welcome Signature Events schedule goes live in Spring to support your planning.

Students should plan to pack essential items such as bedding, towels, personal hygiene products, and small electronics, while coordinating with roommates on shared items like microwaves and refrigerators to avoid duplicates in the residence hall room. Students are encouraged to consolidate belongings and bring only what they need, as residence hall spaces are limited.
To help students prepare for move-in and campus life, University Housing provides a What to Bring Checklist, which is included in the e-Welcome packet sent to students prior to move-in.

For purchasing essentials and additional items, students have access to several on- and off-campus stores. On campus, students have access to the Sun Devil Campus Stores and the P.O.D. Convenience Markets. Off campus, ASU students have numerous food and shopping options in the Phoenix area. These include big box stores that can support any of your move-in needs.

Polytechnic, Tempe, and West Valley campus residents can use the USS From-Home-to-Room program to have items delivered to their room prior to arrival. For Downtown Residents, the students’ mailing and shipping addresses will be posted on their My ASU account when assigned. You can ship items to your student’s direct mailing address, and they can pick them up when they arrive on campus.

While exact dimensions are not available, you can find room layouts, floor plans, and amenities for each residence hall on the University Housing website for first-year students, and on the Continuing Student Housing website for upper-division students.

Students living in the residence halls benefit from a comprehensive support system designed to meet their academic, personal and daily living needs. Living on campus connects students with a wide network of support professionals, including college advisors, Counseling Services staff, and University Housing team members, all dedicated to student success. Maintenance and facilities support are available 24/7 to respond to emergency situations, and students can request technology assistance through the Technology Center. Residence halls also provide essential amenities, including Wi-Fi, laundry facilitiesmail services, and free water refill stations.

University Housing professional staff are available 24/7 to provide guidance and assistance. For questions or concerns, students are encouraged to first reach out to their community assistants (CAs), who are upper-class students living and working within the residential college. CAs help students navigate college life by addressing their needs, providing leadership, role modeling and community engagement opportunities.

If the student has granted parents access to My ASU portal, they still need to grant parent access to the Health Portal.

Academics

You can find the official Academic Calendar online at registrar.asu.edu/academic-calendar. Additionally, a digital version of the ASU Family calendar, which includes important deadlines, can be downloaded at eoss.asu.edu/family/calendar

Students can change their schedule or major by working with their academic advisor. Students should plan to regularly meet with their academic advisor, who can assist them in making strategic, personalized decisions to complete their degree, including course mapping and enrollment changes. All undergraduate students who have declared a major have an assigned academic advisor. Students can find contact information for their academic advisor in the Academic Support Team section of their My ASU page. For additional information, access the Academic Advising website.

Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services (SAILS) provides accommodations and services to students with disabilities (an IEP or 504 Plan, have a history of accommodations at another institution, and/or a student with a physical or mental impairment) in all ASU programs. SAILS works with students to understand their disability and how it impacts them in the educational environment to identify appropriate accommodations to address academic barriers. Once a student is admitted to the university or participating in an ASU program, such as Universal Learner, they should contact SAILS to discuss accommodations. Parents may encourage their students to register with SAILS, however students must complete their registration with SAILS, since they are responsible to request accommodations in higher education.

ASU provides a wide range of academic support services to help students navigate their degree requirements and succeed in their coursework. Students should plan to regularly meet with their academic advisor, who can assist them in making strategic, personalized decisions to complete their degree and support course mapping and enrollment. The Student Success Center also helps students make the most of their ASU experience through trained peer coaches who assist with understanding individual interests and goals, addressing concerns, and answering questions.

Free tutoring is available for all ASU undergraduate and graduate students through the Academic Support Network, with Tutoring Centers located on all four campuses offering both in-person and online support across many academic disciplines. Writing Centers are also available at each campus. In addition, ASU faculty and instructors hold routine office hours where students can discuss course material and ask questions; students should refer to their course syllabus for specific times and are encouraged to use office hours each semester.
