Academic Orientation Session
Academic Orientation Sessions are live, two-hour Zoom sessions where students have the opportunity to meet with their academic college and register for courses. Students have the opportunity to learn more about specific resources their academic college offers and what they can expect once the semester starts. You can register for an Academic Orientation Session by accessing the New Student Orientation Experience. During the registration process, you will be shown available dates based upon your academic college and major.
The link is located on your MyASU home page in your ‘My Classes’ box or https://newstudentorientation.apps.asu.edu/
Once you are registered for a session, you can reschedule for a different date here. Students who reschedule their Academic Orientation Session within 7 days of the program date will be assessed a $25 Change Fee.
We are so excited to meet you virtually! In the New Student Orientation Experience your academic college has provided information on what to expect during your Academic Orientation Session. Please log in five minutes early from a laptop or desktop computer. If you have a camera available, you may be asked to turn your camera on to meet your Academic Advisor and other students.
Students who do not attend their Academic Orientation Session will be assessed a $50 No Show Fee.
If you wish to change your major, please visit: https://changingmajors.asu.edu/
After your major has been changed and reflected on your MyASU homepage, your Academic Orientation Session will need to be changed. Canceling or deferring your undergraduate admission
Students who want to cancel their reservations must notify the New Student Experience office at 480-965-2880 or Orientation@asu.edu.
Incoming students who have paid the enrollment deposit and declined admission on or before the deadlines — May 1st for fall admission or December 1 for spring admission — are eligible for a refund. Once a student cancels their admission, an enrollment deposit refund will be triggered and refunded back in the method in which it was paid. Enrollment deposits submitted on or after the May 31 deadline for fall admission or the December 1 deadline for spring admission are not eligible for any refunds.
The maximum refund disbursed is $250 due to processing fees for first year students and $200 for Transfer Students.
If you would like to defer your admissions to ASU, please visit: https://admission.asu.edu/undergrad/cancel-defer
Deferred admission is for students who want to begin their studies in a later semester than their admission semester. The admission deferment only guarantees admission into the university and not necessarily admission to a particular major or program of study. You may defer your admission for up to five terms or 2 ½ years. *International students on a F-1 visa may defer up to one consecutive term past the original term of admission. If you have additional questions, please contact your representative. Find your rep - https://admission.asu.edu/contact/undergraduate
Placement Exams
Arizona State University requires an ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL) Assessment to determine readiness for mathematics courses. ALEKS PPL is a web-based program that uses artificial intelligence to map a student's strengths and weaknesses. The Placement Assessment is up to 30 questions and generally takes 60-90 minutes to complete. After the Placement Assessment, an individualized Prep and Learning Module is available for students to refresh their knowledge on forgotten topics. Students then have the opportunity to reassess and improve their placement. ALEKS consists of three parts:
- An Initial Placement Assessment
- The Prep and Learning Module, an individualized, self-paced online review
- Access to two additional Placement Assessments
Arizona State University encourages each student to spend time in the Prep and Learning Module, even if the desired score is achieved, because time spent in ALEKS will ultimately lead to better preparation and improved grades.
Yes. Please complete the Math Placement Assessment even if you have IB, AP, Dual Enrollment or other college credits. The score you receive will not interfere with the credits you already have. Completion of the math placement assessment will help your academic advisor enroll you appropriately.
Please complete the Math Placement Assessment one week prior to your Academic Orientation Session. Your academic advisor will need this information to enroll you in the correct math class.
Transfer Students
Please visit the “Advising and Registration” module in the New Transfer Student Orientation Experience. Follow the Next Steps for Registration as provided by your Academic College to register for classes.

Another way to meet transfer students is to connect with the Transfer Student Ambassadors. They are excited to help you with your transition to ASU.
Yes! Students can meet with an Academic Advisor prior to paying the transfer enrollment deposit to review transfer credits, academic resources, and opportunities in their degree program.
