Katie Abbott
Determined not to have peaked in high school, I'm looking forward to my time at ASU. I will be majoring in Secondary Ed with an emphasis in PE and minoring in Political Science. That possibly encapsulates my talents and outlook on life. I always come to play ball and compete but I equally enjoy the schmoozing that goes along with the game. After college I plan to teach and coach at my alma mater of Westwood High School! In the meantime, I am very active in my church. I love to play sports. But more specifically, my PASSION is badminton! Besides that, I just enjoy life and live by my motto: "There aren't any strangers, just friends I haven't met yet!"

Yesenia Barraza
YeseniaHola! I am originally from Durango Mexico and recently graduated from Westview High School in Avondale AZ. During my high school career I was really involved not only at Westview but also at the various outreach programs at Saint John Vianney Church. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be the first person in my family to graduate from high school and attend college. I am very excited about becoming an ASU sundevil. My main goals are to stay active in my school and community, to travel and learn another language, and to stay focused in my academics so that I can continue to succeed. In addition, I want to keep having fun with my friends and family while in college. I really enjoy dancing, reading, and working out. I also want to meet many people and continue sharing my positive, optimistic, and happy attitude with everyone.

Martha Castaneda
MarthaMy name is Martha Castaneda and I graduated from Barry Goldwater High School in North Phoenix. In high school, I studied under the International Baccalaureate Program and the AP program. I was also involved in several activities around campus. The activity that most defines me and that I enjoyed the most, was the school video announcements in which I participated for the last three years. That is what I want to study at ASU. I have chosen a Journalism/Broadcasting major with a minor in French. By attending the Walter Cronkite school I wish to start my career and serve as a news anchor and reporter to major news stations in the country and abroad. I would like one day to study and work in Paris, France and live each day working in what I really love. While at ASU I hope to never lose touch with my family and friends and instead share my experiences with those I love.

Matt Cicinelli
MatthewHey Everyone! I’m Matt. I’m 18 and I was born and raised in Tempe, Arizona. I graduated from Brophy with Honors…blah blah blah…Most of us have a wrap sheet about a mile long full of accolades, so what? I love to have fun with my friends and I like to think I’m very outgoing. I’m a work-oholic but I love what I do (I work for Wells Fargo Bank). I plan to go on to the Business College but I’m not set on which field I want to pursue. I am very excited to start this new phase of my life and I look forward to sharing this experience with ya’ll!

Howard Chu
HowardHello everybody! I’m Howard Chu (you can call me Howie, Ho-Chu, Chu Chu, if you’d like). I just graduated from Corona del Sol High School and my passions include sleeping, eating, and gambling. On a more serious note, I enjoy meeting new people and participating in new things. I was involved in Student Council, NHS, Key Club, Interact, Theatre Club, Track and Field and a plethora of other activities. I was born in America and moved over to Taiwan to study for four years (4th-7th grade). I plan on living in the Hayden Hall and majoring in Biosciences. Recently, I have been named a Flinn Scholar, so hopefully this will further assist me in the pursuit of my ultimate goal of becoming a successful and contributive physician. I just want to add that I’m very grateful to become a part of this community and that I look forward interacting with all of you!

Art Delacruz
I am a secondary education major from Kofa High School in Yuma, Arizona. I hope to become an English teacher and hopefully have an impact on students' lives. My hobbies include playing tennis, swimming, taking pictures, and going new places. I always have a smile on my face and am glad to help anybody, anytime. I consider myself a responsible and friendly person and I am really looking forward to meeting my fellow LSP members.

Andrea Diaz
AndreaI am a proud graduate of the 5A Basketball State Champions…Mesa High! My major as of now is communications (but as you folks know, I’ll most likely change my major a few times), and I am seriously thinking of double majoring in either business or political science. For my career goals, I alternate between an ambassador for the US to a Spanish speaking country or diplomat of some sort…hence my prior statement of changing majors/minors. I suppose that just like anyone else, I LOVE to laugh, and that is done easily. Also, games are imperative to maintaining a balanced life. Plus, every one of us needs to keep that inner child; it is good to act child-like, but not childish. Another thing I love is bubble gum. It is the key to my heart! I am immensely honored to be a part of this program. I look forward to all the adventures we will embark upon and the friendships and acquaintances I will attain.

Kate Ernzen
KateHi everyone! I graduated from Mountain View High School in Mesa. During high school, I was an active member in my church’s LifeTeen program and on my school’s Drumline where I got the chance to travel to China with the marching band, sparking a love of travel. This past year, I was also on Mountain View’s Academic Decathlon team. As a LSP cohort, I hope to spend at least one semester abroad and eventually graduate with a degree in International Business. More importantly, though, I want ASU to be an incredible all-around learning experience and make friends and memories that will last
a lifetime. Go Devils!

Lindsay Farmer
Hi, my name is Lindsay Farmer. I was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona and I graduated from Sinagua High School. During high school, I participated in National Honors Society, Peer Mediation and played on the Varsity Soccer Team for four years. I love playing soccer and have played competitively on club teams from Flagstaff and Phoenix. I hope over the next four years to major in psychology and someday become a sports or child psychologist. I also hope to study abroad in Spain.I am excited to meet everyone and can’t wait to be a part of the LSP family!

Tara Gregory
TaraI am Tara Gregory from Bethalto, Illinois, which is not far from St. Louis. I am a Christian, hard working, extroverted, cheerleader, shop-aholic, small-town girl majoring in Bio-Medical Engineering. I get bored easily, and tend to be involved in as many activities as I can. I started a Key Club at school and became the president. I am very fun loving and social, but set very high standards for myself in everything I do. I hope my enthusiasm and energy will continue through my years at ASU and enable me to somehow make a positive difference in the lives of other people. I can’t wait to make new friends and begin a new life at ASU.

Lauren Hengl
LaurenHi, my name is Lauren Okun Hengl and I graduated from Shadow Mountain High School (go matadors!). In high school I was actively involved in Choir, Drama, Student Government, Student Ambassadors, National Honor Society, and March of Dimes. I was Senior Class President, and Co-Founder of a cancer awareness club. I love musical theatre and have been performing around the valley for over 8 years. This past year I was in All-State Show Choir, which was a blast! My college goals may include Communications, Broadcasting or Theatre. I am excited for all the opportunities at ASU, the Barrett Honors College, and the Leadership Scholarship Program.

Mackenzie Hopman
MackenzieI was born right here in Tempe, Arizona and I attended Tempe High School. Although I live so close to ASU, I will be staying in Pale Verde East. Since I am not quite sure what to major in, I picked something that I enjoyed the most in high school. So, for now my major is English. My minor is political science because I am very interested in current events and world politics. I hope to one day become a political advisor or an English teacher. I love to workout, shop, eat, read and travel. I am very excited to attend ASU!

Alex Hopson
Hi, my name is Alex Hopson - I graduated last year from Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale where I played baseball and swam for the school team. Next year, I will be starting at W.P. Carey majoring in Finance. I am originally from California and love to surf when I have time.

Natalie Hyde

At ASU I am majoring English, with Pre-Law. I look forward to being active in the Leadership Program and meeting LSP students.

Chad Jacobs
ChadOriginally from Lancaster, California, my family moved to Albuquerque and then to Tucson before I was five. I went to Flowing Wells Junior High and High School where I was the class Valedictorian. I played baseball for four years, and we made it to State this year only to get knocked around in the first game. I’m a Diamondback fan and did the whole sleep-out-for-World-Series-tickets-thing in 2001. I also tried golf my freshman year, but that sport wasn’t as kind to me. I love to snowboard and I try to go at least once a year. Comedies are my favorite movies and I play the guitar in my free time. I plan to major in Bioengineering and I’m going to try and squeeze in some Business if I can.

Mindy Kinnard
MindyHi, My name is Mindy Kinnard and I just graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in Casa Grande, AZ. Teela Ladd
TeelaWell…I just graduated from Maricopa High School. I participated in varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball, as well as NHS, Student Council, Amerind, and M-Club. I was born in Utah, but have lived here for 9 years. I am from a family of 5 girls, you got it! No brothers! I love to talk, play sports, scrapbook, travel, and have fun. Currently my major is “undecided”, but I am thinking about medicine or law. Eventually I would like to open my own business. I am so excited to be a member of LSP and look forward to meeting you all!

Taylor Morris
TaylorI recently graduated from Dobson High School in Mesa, Arizona. My senior year was pretty intense, and I’m hoping I’ll get a little more sleep at ASU. Last year, I was President of NHS, a member of We The People, Orchestra, and Choir. I was also actively involved with the Harry Potter Guild, a club I co-founded which focused its energies on a citywide book drive and a reading buddy program at Adams Elementary. The hard work with the Guild paid off in an unexpected manner when I was named a Toyota Community Scholar last spring. Currently my major is music education, but I would also like to study political science and biology…so I’ll probably end up with some combination of majors and minors. See you at ASU!

Andrew Nelson
AndrewTo start off, my hometown is Huron, South Dakota. The population is only about 12,000, so I am excited to see what "city-life" is all about. As for the family, I am the youngest of seven children. In high school I did an array of things that filled up my schedule. I participated in hockey, Key Club, FBLA, Student Senate, United Way, mentoring, and various other activities and organizations. I am majoring in business management and minoring in biology. I am anxious to meet all the other LSPers and get settled into college.

I can't wait to meet all of you, I know that we will be the best of friends!

Brittany Olp
BrittanyMy name is Brittany Olp and i graduated from Paradise Valley High School. I am attending ASU in the fall to begin my studies on nursing, and I want to specialize in pediatrics and maybe one day go to the Phoenix Childrens Hospital, but who knows, that changes everyday! Besides nursing my other love is waterskiing. I have skied since I was a little girl and I am hoping to go to nationals this year and take it all (wish me luck)!! I am so excited to attend ASU and extremely honored to be a part of the LSP. See you around!

Thomas Peterson
ThomasHi! My name is Tom Peterson and I’m a graduate of Apollo High School in Glendale. For the last four years, I have been involved with all forms of music and theatre, and hope to for the next four as well. For my major, I haven’t yet settled on either Music Education or Composition, but it’ll be one of the two. Writing music is really my passion, and my ultimate goal is to divide my time between New York and LA, writing for both the stage and the screen. I look forward to meeting you all!

Ashley Scheffer
AshleyHi, I’m Ashley Scheffer, a graduate of Copley High School located in Akron, Ohio. I live with my family Dad, Mom, younger Bro, and my two cats Sammi and Sosa—no we’re not Chicago Cubs fans. This fall I will be a member of the Barrett Honors College and am incredibly excited about the opportunities offered to me by the Leadership Scholarship Program.
