Professional Development Opportunities

Professional Development Funds

Residential Life staff members are eligible to request funds for a conference, workshop, seminar, training, etc., that they see directly relating to their professional role within our organization at Arizona State University. In previous years, we have had staff members attend countless development opportunities hosted on-campus or in-state, and we have also sent team members to a variety of regional, national, and international-level conferences.

ACUHO-I

ACUHO-I is the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International, which is the international professional association representing more than 1,000 member schools, 17,000 professionals and 3.2 million on-campus students from across the globe.  ACIJHO-I and its office enhances our work as housing professionals through annual conferences, institutes, and symposiums, online courses, webinars, and roundtables, credible benchmarking data, research, and a library, and a housing internship program among much more.  ASU has sent professional staff and undergraduate students in the past to the National Housing Training Institute, STARS College, and the ACUHO-I Convention & Exposition, as well as regularly participates in the Housing Internship Program and The Placement Exchange.  As ASU has an institutional memberships, all professionals on campus may enjoy access and take advantage of live events, digital channels, and publications.

AIMHO

AIMHO, the Association of Intermountain Housing Officers, works for the continual improvement and coordination of housing and food service operations for students and staff members in institutions of higher learning.  AIMHO represents member institutions in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Saskatchewan, Canada. AIMHO also coordinates an annual conference, a regional RA conference, RAppin, and provides ongoing educational opportunities for members through the AIMHO 365 program.

ASU has an institutional membership meaning that all Residential Life staff members are able to join AIMHO at no additional cost. We pride ourselves on being highly involved in AIMHO.

RAppin’ Conference

RAppin’ is an annual conference held in the fall where Resident Assistants and Community Assistants from institutions in the Intermountain region join together to network and share ideas through informal discussions and programs. Each year, ASU sends a delegation of CAs to the conference, and CDs have the opportunity to advise the delegation. RAppin is a great way to meet CAs from other locations, present at the regional level, and build relationships with housing staff from across the region.
