Novel Coronavirus

Update to outdoor face covering policy

May 7, 2021

Dear ASU employees and students,

One of the many reasons Arizona State University encourages students and employees to get vaccinated for COVID-19 is because of the greater freedom it will afford you as an individual while also advancing good health for everyone in our community. As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to adjust its policies, which the university follows very closely, the impact of being vaccinated will be increasingly significant.

In keeping with recently announced CDC guidelines related to face coverings outdoors for vaccinated individuals, ASU is modifying its outdoor policy.

Effective May 10, 2021: If you have been fully vaccinated, the university will not require face coverings in outdoor spaces on ASU campuses. Face covers are still advisable in crowded outdoor areas and venues. Everyone is still required to wear a face covering while inside ASU buildings.

Get vaccinated

ASU continues to offer vaccinations free of charge for all students and employees.

  1. Make a vaccination appointment in the ASU Employee Health Portal.
  2. Student walk-ins are also welcome at all ASU Health Services locations.
  3. Please upload your vaccination record promptly after you are vaccinated.

Any member of the public also may receive a vaccine at Desert Financial Arena on the Tempe campus.

  1. The DFA vaccine site operates from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.
  2. Anyone may make an appointment through the Arizona Department of Health Services website. Walk-ins are also welcome.

We appreciate your continued vigilance and discipline and look forward to greater relaxation on rules and regulations as individuals throughout the community, state and country continue to get vaccinated.

Thank you,
