When is Family Weekend?

Family Weekend 2023 will be held on Sept. 22-24. 

What is Family Weekend?

Family Weekend is a long-standing ASU tradition held during the fall semester. Current students invite their families to join them on campus for a weekend of events to celebrate Sun Devil spirit and traditions. Family members of all ages can enjoy activities hosted by academic colleges, campus departments and Sun Devil Athletics.

Who can attend?

Any ASU affiliated families — students, staff, faculty, alumni and their family members and guests of all ages are welcome to attend.

What is the cost of attending Family Weekend?

Family Weekend 2023 will cost $45 per Guest and $20 per ASU Student. There is no charge for children under 5.  For families for whom this will pose a financial hardship, please email asufamily@asu.edu. Certain events such as the Gold Rush, Sun Devil Athletic matches and Gammage performances require additional ticket purchase.  

Where should we stay for family weekend?

Families can choose from a variety of accommodations to best suit their needs. Families who need accommodations are invited to check out ASU discounts for area hotels available during Family Weekend. Please note that discounted rooms are limited and most deals conclude July 21 so we encourage families to book early. For additional information on traveling to ASU, go to the university's travel site.

What time should families arrive in town on Friday?

Check-in will begin at each campus the morning of Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, with events typically beginning mid-morning/early afternoon. Be sure to review the Family Weekend calendar of events to plan your visit. If arriving before Friday morning, or staying beyond Sunday, we will also provide a list of the many events happening on campus in which you can participate on the Family Weekend calendar webpage.

Where do I check-in for Family Weekend?

You will check in at the campus you selected when you registered for Family Weekend. You must check in to receive your Family Weekend materials and badge which provides access to the majority of the weekend's events.

Why should I go to check-in?

Please join us at check into get your ASU Swag and required badges that give you access to ASU events throughout the weekend.

Can my student check in for us if we all cannot attend check-in?

Yes, your student or any one member of your group may check in for everyone. 

How long does check-in last?

Check-in takes about 10 minutes to complete, and you may arrive at any point in the check-in time window to begin the process.

Is registration required for all events?

Registration is required for select events taking place on Friday through Sunday to ensure accurate counts for food, seating and supplies. You may refer to the full events list on the Family Weekend Schedule  to see which events require registration.

Not everyone in our group could make it. How do I request a refund for their fee? 

We encourage you to invite one of your student’s friends whose family is unable to attend to utilize your remaining ticket(s). Should you need additional assistance, email familyweekend@asu.edu and include your name, contact phone, email address and confirmation number for the individuals along with the special circumstances impacting your request. All refund requests must be received by noon on September 8th. 

How can I access Sun Devil Fitness Centers during Family Weekend?

Family Weekend participants can access all SDFC locations throughout the weekend with their badge. Families can utilize equipment or join classes.

What time is the Gold Rush?

Gold Rush will run on Tempe’s campus Saturday, September 23 at 7 a.m., this is an obstacle course race built to inspire all Sun Devils to run, walk, stroll, climb, jump, and laugh their way to an unabashed sense of triumph! Participation in Gold Rush requires an additional $15 fee per participant. 

What time is the ASU Family Block Party?

The event begins three and a half hours prior to kickoff of the USC vs. ASU football game. Kickoff will be announced  in the weeks prior to the game. 

What time is the football game?

TBD. But be sure to pack your Maroon for this year’s maroon Monsoon and Hispanic Heritage Month Game.

Can I go to class with my student?

Most faculty members will allow guests to visit their classrooms during Family Weekend. Have your student check with his or her individual professors prior to your visit.

Where can I get help if I have questions while visiting campus?

Each campus has information centers with access to Family Weekend event information as well as general campus and university resources. These locations are indicated with a star on the Family Weekend Guide:

  • Downtown Phoenix - Student Center @ the Post Office
  • Polytechnic - Student Union
  • Tempe - Memorial Union
  • West - University Center

There will also be an Ask Me Booth station located at the ASU Family Block Party during Saturday’s pre-game activities.

The ASU App is also a great resource for campus information and interactive maps right at your fingertips. We recommend downloading the app and using it to help navigate campus and events.

Are football tickets included with Family Weekend registration?

No. Football tickets need to be purchased separately through Sun Devil Athletics. However, once you pay for the Family Weekend registration, a discount code to use when you purchase football tickets is made available at the end of successful registration in addition to the event confirmation email. Early registrants will also be able to take advantage of an early-purchase window before the event opens to the general public in July.

Do students need to purchase tickets to the football game?

If the student would like to sit with their family, then they will need to purchase a ticket. However, fee-paying students may sit in the student section for no charge, just like any other home football game.

How do I get my tickets if we haven’t received them yet?

Sun Devil Athletics is a mobile ticketing athletic department. All tickets will be loaded onto your online account manager.

  • First time users:
    1. Select Sign In/Sign Up on top right-hand side
    2. Enter the email address which was used during purchase and select Forgot Password?
    3. This process is the easiest to create a password
    4. Follow prompts from email
  • Tickets will be in the Manage Tickets tab. We recommend saving to your phone’s wallet. Tickets can also be forwarded individually to other members via the Transfer function.

Mobile App

  • Last year, Sun Devil Athletics launched the Sun Devil Athletics Gameday app which puts all items a fan needs for game day in one place. Fans are able to link their ticketing account for a smooth digital ticketing experience, sync with stadium sounds and game interactions, stay up-to-date with teams and updates, and so much more.
  • Two ways to link your ticketing account to the mobile app:
    • - Tickets button on the bottom of the home screen
    • - Tickets > Manage My Tickets in the menu on the top right of the home screen

Where do I park for check-in? Is it free?

Pay-by-hour parking for Friday check-in and events is available at any daily/hourly lot.

Where can I park on Saturday for events?

  • Downtown Phoenix- Campus and City lots and metered parking available. See the ASU campus parking website for additional details. Be sure to also grab a Family Weekend Guide provided at check-in for further event information and parking options.
  • Tempe- Most of Tempe campus parking is used for Game Day activities. See game day parking for more information.
  • Polytechnic & West- Parking restrictions are not enforced on weekends in lots on the West and Polytechnic campuses.

Where can I park on Saturday for the game in Tempe?

All parking for the game on Saturday will adhere to the game day guidelines. Guest/Pay lots open 3.5 hours prior to kick-off and rates range from $20-40 depending on the lot. Please see the parking map for further details.

Is parking available on Sunday?

Open lots, metered parking open where available at no cost. Please observe posted parking regulations for information.

Who can I contact if we need transportation on campus?

ADA Cart service will be available Saturday on the Tempe Campus to support participant transportation from the Family Block Party to the Stadium, me day activities. Individuals who requested accommodations during the registration process will be emailed instructions for accessing these, and additional Friday,  services. 

What public transportation options are available?

The Valley Metro Rail is a regional rail system that runs from Mesa to Phoenix. You can hop on at either end — Dunlap and 19th Avenue, or Main Street and Gilbert Road — or at the many stops in between, including ASU’s Tempe and Downtown Phoenix campuses. Student fares are available. To travel to the Downtown Phoenix campus, utilize stop 15: Van Buren/Central Ave. For the Tempe Campus utilize either stop 25: Mill Ave/Third or 26: Veterans Way/College Ave. valleymetro.org/maps-schedules/rail.
