Get a COVID-19 test before you return to campus

The spread of COVID-19 and its fast-moving omicron variant means that we will continue our efforts to manage it as we return to campus. Students, faculty and staff need to take a COVID-19 test before coming back to our campuses. We have assembled the following list to address some of the most common questions about the testing verification expectation.

The decision was made to help protect the Sun Devil community by identifying and preventing new cases from being introduced to campus. Additionally, for students who spent winter break at home, testing prior to arrival on campus or in the surrounding community will allow those who are positive to isolate in their hometowns with support of family or friends.

Contact your healthcare provider or visit your local health department’s website to find the latest local information on testing. The type of viral COVID-19 tests offered may differ by location. For local students, Devils’ drop-off is an on-campus COVID-19 saliva testing option open to all students. No appointments are required — pick up a kit from an on-campus location, register it online and drop it off once you’ve collected your saliva sample. Pick-up and drop-off sites are available on all four ASU campuses in the Phoenix metropolitan area and our locations in Lake Havasu City, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Once you register your kit online, you have 24 hours to collect and deposit your sample at one of the on-campus drop-off bins. You must drop off your sample within eight hours of collecting it.

Any test for COVID-19 is acceptable. While PCR tests are the most accurate, we understand that antigen tests are widely available and are acceptable for testing and submission.

Yes. Being fully vaccinated does not exempt you from testing due to the possibility of breakthrough cases among vaccinated individuals. Vaccinated individuals are able to spread the virus to others. If you are eligible for a booster, please consider getting one right away for your health and the health of those around you.

Yes, if your previous infection was more than 90 days ago. Due to the possibility of reinfection, individuals who have previously tested positive for COVID-19 are not exempt from testing. If you have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days, you do not need to test. You still need to complete the form.

Tests are available on campus via Devils' Drop Off. Please test as soon as you are able before returning to campus. If it will be after January 7th and you live on campus, you must test prior to checking back into the residence halls.

You will be asked to test when you get back to campus.

Students requesting exemptions or other COVID-related accommodations may do so through the following form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1xtaoMRv-avASnBsImY4tAMNHQhJfrlO8JvvlPky5850/edit?ts=6115e465. Additional questions regarding exemptions may be directed to Student.Accessibility@asu.edu.

We are asking people to do the right thing for the health of our community. ASU is committed to the health of our communities and getting tested regularly is one way to keep our community healthy. As a member of our community of care, we do expect for students to contribute by testing as requested. People’s cooperation is much appreciated as we continue to care for the health of all Sun Devils. Students can test on their own or through ASU.

We expect all residential students to test prior to checking back into the residence halls for spring semester. Devils Drop Off tests are available on campus for your convenience.

Students who are unable to complete a test prior to return will need to test at check-in with either DDO or a rapid test.

Complete the form communicating that you have completed the test.
