One of my favorite things about being a peer listener is helping students feel heard. This role has taught me that many students face similar challenges, yet not everyone has a support system to rely on. As a peer listener, I can be a compassionate ear for those in need, and I genuinely enjoy seeing the positive impact I have on their lives.

My favorite part about being a peer listener is the chance to connect with people—those who are like me, those who are different, and yet all deeply human. I genuinely look forward to getting to know others on a deeper level, having real conversations, and truly listening to their lived experiences. To me, peer listening means holding space for every voice, valuing every word, and recognizing that no matter our backgrounds, we're all navigating life in our own way.

My favorite thing about being a peer listener with ASU is just the variety of people I get to talk to, while I am on shift. People are obviously busy, and on a bustling campus like ASU, everyone is hustling to get one thing or the other done. However, when I put up my sign, and sit down, people always slow down, even if it is just to look at me and my sign. Then they smile or nod at me, or ask about what I am doing, or even sit down for a few minutes.

My favorite thing about being a peer listener is learning about the student body. Not many people get to have such a personal insight into the personal lives of students, and without this job, I wouldn't have such a privilege.

My favorite part of peer listening is being a safe space for someone who just needs to be heard without judgment. It’s rewarding to know that just by listening, I can help someone feel seen, valued, and a little less alone.
