The ASU Black African Convocation is a celebratory event that honors the accomplishments and commitment of ASU’s Black, African American, and African students pursuing higher education. Participation is open to all graduating students.
You must apply for graduation to activate the registration link. Please visit Graduation for more details on applying for graduation.
- Graduates are asked to arrive at Gammage by 10 a.m. to prepare for the formal processional beginning at 11 a.m.
- All graduates must wear an official ASU cap and gown during the convocation ceremony. You may purchase your regalia at the Sun Devil Campus Bookstores.
- Friends, family, and other guests are welcome to attend. Doors will open for guests at 10 a.m. Tickets are not required.
- Participating graduates will receive the official ASU Kente stole during the program. For graduates who miss the ceremony, you must be registered in Marching Order to receive materials related to convocations (i.e. stole and printed program), as long as inventory allows.
- Light refreshments will be served after the convocation ceremony.

Student speaker application
We are welcoming applications to be student speakers at Black African Convocation. Please fill out the Student Speaker Application Form and prepare a draft of your 3-5 minute speech by Monday, April 3, 2023, at which time the selection committee of students and staff will review the applications.

All faculty and staff are invited to join in our celebration. Please submit your information on our RSVP Form for more details by Monday, May 1, 2023.
