The ASU CS selection team, consisting of senior staff clinicians, current interns, and the Training Director, considers a number of aspects of each application to determine potential fit with our training program. While we do not require prior practicum experience in a university counseling center, the majority of recent interns have had that experience and are seeking a career in a university counseling center environment. The internship is clinically focused, and therefore a strong background in individual and group psychotherapy with clients similar in age and issues to the university client population is highly important, as well as diversity awareness and interest, self awareness, and openness to training. Applicants who most closely match our internship training program criteria will be invited to interview with us by telephone.
November 1, 2019
We will contact all applicants by email by December 6, 2019 to notify them of their status (selected for an interview or no longer under consideration). If you are traveling during that time and do not have access to email, please provide us with a telephone number where you can be reached.
Since most applicants have limited travel budgets, we conduct all interviews by telephone to insure equity in the interview process. Telephone interviews will take place in January. There will be two interviews, the first one for 45 minutes with an intern selection team that consists of one senior staff clinician and one intern, and the second one with the training director for 30 minutes. The first interview will be focusing on clinical interest, clinical skills, and fit with our program. The second interview will be rather informal.
Contact with Staff
We welcome contact from prospective applicants. We want to provide as much information as possible to aid in your evaluation of our program. Please feel free to contact Lilia Miramontes, Ph.D., Training Director by email at email@example.com or by telephone at 480-965-6146. Your request will be given to the appropriate staff, who will then contact you.
You may also visit ASU CS. We will be happy to arrange for a convenient time to meet with the Training Director, tour the agency, and meet with an intern if available. Typical visits last 1-2 hours. To arrange a visit, email Valerie Foster-Yazzie at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Many applicants wonder if it is necessary to visit a site to indicate interest. At ASU CS, that is not the case because we understand that applicants have limited time and funds. You are welcome to visit to gain more information about our staff and program if you desire.
