You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

You Don't Have to Do It Alone: Why Seeking Support in College Matters

College can be one of the most exciting yet challenging times in your life. New people, new expectations, and the pressure to "have it all together" can make it easy to feel like you’re supposed to handle everything on your own. But the truth is: you’re not.

Seeking support is not a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of strength and self-awareness.

Research shows that asking for help is one of the most effective ways to manage stress, build emotional resilience, and grow as a person. Whether you're navigating academic pressure, relationships, mental health, or just feeling off, turning to someone can make a huge difference.

Support can come in many forms. For example, peer support. Sometimes, talking to someone who's been in your shoes (like a Devils 4 Devils peer) can help you feel heard and understood. College is the perfect place to speak to your peers, since we are all going through similar experiences.

Counseling Services is also a great resource. Professional help offers a space to unpack what you’re going through and learn tools to manage it. I understand it can be nerve-racking to start therapy. But, ASU provides Counseling Services for students, including open call and chat, and telehealth sessions! There are so many great resources through the university, so you can find what is best for you.

Faculty and mentors can be helpful as well, especially in academic-related stress. Professors and advisors aren’t just here for academics; they often want to see you succeed as a whole person. Just staying after class or attending office hours to seek their help can make a difference.

Lastly, friends and community are super important. A quick chat, a shared meal, or just knowing someone’s there can go a long way. You deserve support. No one expects you to have it all figured out. Struggling does not make you weak; it makes you human. So, take the first step! Reach out. Talk to someone. Explore ASU’s mental health resources. Ask a peer for help. You do not have to do it all alone; in fact, you are not meant to. Let support be part of your success story!
