Join us for a dialogue with distinguished scholar Professor Thomas K. Nakayama, who will speak about his own intellectual journey as one of the early scholars of queer communication in Communication. Dr. Nakayama was a former professor of Communication at Arizona State University in 1997 when he co-authored the article “Sextext” with ASU colleague Dr. Frederick Corey, that applied queer theory to Communication by exploring masculinity, pleasure, and gay male pornography. He will share from his own experiences doing research on the margins of genders, sexualities, as well as his thoughts about field of queer studies in the present. This talk is sponsored by the Sexuality Studies Graduate Certificate, the LGBTQ+ Undergraduate Certificate, Asian Pacific American Studies, and the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication.
