Poverty Porn 101: Images and Narratives that Other (Workshop)
"What issues arise when influencers drive through and film encampments of unsheltered people? Or non-consenting folks with addictions amid an “episode”? What happens when those videos are posted on social media?
In this event, Dr. Neal Lester will present how these instances are more about the person filming and posting than about vulnerable populations for gain and profit. We will explore “poverty porn” and how to avoid exploiting individuals and communities when it comes to soliciting support, resources, and understanding."
