Please review these requirements carefully before submitting your proposal. Writing workshops and office hours are also available for those seeking additional support in developing an effective submission.

Student and Team Eligibility

  • All full- or part-time students at Arizona State University can participate.
  • Individual students or teams (of up to five members) are eligible.
  • Each team must have a designated team leader; team leaders must be full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking ASU students for the full 2016-2017 school year. Final round applicants will be asked to provide proof of enrollment for the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters. Students leading teams that are named as Changemaker Challenge winners must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at the time awards are presented.
  • All participants must identify a faculty member or professional who will serve as a mentor for the team. (Mentors do not count as one of the team members.)
  • Although teams should seek advice from mentors, the project, prototype, venture or partnership idea must be student-led.
  • Projects, prototypes, ventures or partnerships that have already received more than $20,000 in revenue or grants/awards/investments are not eligible for funds
  • Projects, prototypes, ventures or partnerships that have already received $10,000 or more from the Changemaker Challenge in prior years are not eligible for additional funding from the Changemaker Challenge. A team is eligible to receive up to $10,000 in total funding in subsequent years. For example, if a team won $4,000 in a previous Changemaker Challenge they will only be eligible for $6,000 in the next Changemaker Challenge.
  • Suggestion: Teams are encouraged to incorporate members and/or mentors from different departments or colleges within the university. Where appropriate teams should consider mentors that represent nonprofit organizations or industry experts with unique knowledge and experience in the field related to their project. Teams may also have members who are not affiliated with the university (e.g., friends, family, work colleagues, etc. who are not ASU students).

    • How do we educate in a rapidly changing world?
