The Barrett Summer Scholars (BSS) program offers academically talented and motivated students a firsthand college experience, preparing them for enrollment and success at Arizona State University and Barrett, the Honors College. Designed for students entering 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade in Fall 2024, BSS provides an opportunity to explore college-level coursework while building connections within a dynamic community of peers from across the state.

Eligibility

BSS 2025 is open to all students who meet the following criteria:

  • Rising 9th and 10th graders: Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0
  • Rising 11th and 12th graders: Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.25

Rising” means they will be entering this grade in Fall 2025


Application Information

  • Deadline to apply is March 2nd. 
  • All applications will be reviewed, and accepted students will be notified by March 17th. 
  • The application process includes submitting:
  • Short essays
  • Official transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation

     


Program Fee

  • $800 per participant, which includes a $50 non-refundable registration fee. Payment is required upon acceptance to the program. 
  • Limited need-based scholarships are available - There is a section to fill out regarding need on the application. 


Program Information 

  • Rising 9th graders @ Tempe Campus June 1–4, 2025 
  • Rising 10th graders @ Downtown Campus June 8–11, 2025 
  • Rising 11th graders @ West Valley Campus June 15–18, 2025 
  • Rising 12th graders @ Polytechnic Campus June 22–25, 2025


Elective Classes:

  • This year, BSS participants will join a T.R.A.C.K., an elective pathway designed to explore college and career options. After acceptance, students will rank their preferred T.R.A.C.K.s (availability may vary by campus):
    • Technology and Engineering: Covers STEM fields such as computer science, information technology, and various engineering disciplines.
    • Research and Sciences: Includes natural and social sciences, aligning with STEM areas like biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and sociology.
    • Arts and Humanities: Directly pertains to arts disciplines, including literature, history, philosophy, visual arts, performing arts, and cultural studies.
    • Commerce and Business: Focuses on business-related fields such as economics, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and management.
    • Kinetics and Health: Encompasses healthcare-related fields, including health sciences, medicine, kinesiology, sports science, and wellness studies.
