ASU GEAR UP, funded through the U.S. Department of Education, serves the class of 2024 cohort at Glendale High School, Tempe High School, Tolleson Union High School, Washington High School, and Westwood High School.

Student Services

Academic/Career Planning

Students will receive support with:

  • High School 4-year planning/course selection
  • Career interests/skills assessments
  • Opportunities for job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships

Tutoring

Students will receive support with:

  • Academic tutoring in high school courses, test prep, etc. (virtually, in-person, online platform)
    • 1:1
    • Small group
    • Large group

Comprehensive Mentoring

Students will receive support with:

  • Challenges in classes
  • Challenges with teachers
  • Challenges with peers
  • Challenges with family members
  • Challenges with decision-making
  • Challenging with goal-setting

Post Secondary Planning

Students will receive support with:

  • Aligning career interests/skills with postsecondary pathways
  • Campus visits
  • College/university applications
  • FAFSA applications

Personal Development

Students will receive support with:

  • Cultural enrichment activities
  • Time-management skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Note-taking skills

Family Services

Promoting the Value and Benefits of Postsecondary Education

Families will be provided with support to:

  • Understand how/when to advocate on behalf of their student at the school level
  • Build skills to empower their student

College Readiness

Families will be provided with support to:

  • Cultivate the interests/skills of their students

Financial Aid Advising

Parents will be provided with:

  • Information and resources related to paying for college
  • College/university application support
  • FAFSA application support

Supportive services

Families will be provided with support to:

  • Gain additional insights into the choices of their student
